Question trimming mini aussies fur....suggestions??

Should I trim My mini aussies fur? I have gone online and searched everywhere. Peoples answers vary, some say never, some say depends. The vet assistant at the vet said trimming them down for the summer is ok for them, no hurt. He seems fine. We live in New England so weather isnt severe except for August My only real problem with him is his tail fur. He has no tail and the fur around his back side gets so long and mated ( I brush him almost every other nite) and he got pine pitch in it that I have to admit that i did trim his fur on his butt. Had to happen though . looks ok though. So should I trim the rest of him for summer? My profile pic is pretty much what he looks like now, that was taken a few months ago. I want to do what is healthy for him , I do admit I like his 'butt fur' trimmed better then long (it was such a pain!!)
Any suggestions are appreciated!!!
thank you

awe. poor pup

I guess you know your dog better than anyone. How do you think he would do? We had a Chow growing up that loved it! He got excited at the sight of trimmers. But my golden? Shave him and he will hide for weeks till it comes back in. He is embarrassed! So we just shape him up and avoid the trimmers on him. Nothing sadder than a dog too ashamed to go outside to poop. hehehehe

thank you for your reply. I got to thinking.....his hair isnt so bad that he needs shaving. As long as I keep it maintained he does well. The only part that I think I will keep trimmed up is his butt hairs...hehehe lol. his butt hair reaches his ankles and its the worst. I am not sure how he will be in the hot sun but my husband thinks it wont be so bad that we need to trim him. so thank you for your reply
