Hi all,

I have 3 pets: a ten yr old terrier/ whippet mix named Thai, a 10 month old cat, Sammy and my new chihuahua baby, Milo. I have a problem, I think I'm going to have to find a home for Sammy before he kills Milo! He goes up to him, swipes his claws, tries to bite. We've also had the problem of Sammy attacking Thai, but Thai is much larger than my tiny chi, and she can defend herself fine. Is there any other solution, and if I do have to give up the cat :( where can I find a good home for a feisty himalayan cat? Right now I have to keep them seperate....

Thanks,

Melissa

Well I would love to have a Himalayan (sp ?) Cat but, I have found that Chihuahuas and cat will get along... eventually. May I suggest taking your cat to be professionally groomed and have some of those toe nail applique nail tips put on your cat so he can not do so much damage while they are becoming aquainted. There are many benefits of putting these things on your cat and... it is not a permenant declawing. This solution may have to be repeated every few weeks but it will allow time for your puppy to grow and time to develop his Super Navigation Skills! He will learn to out manuver your cat... I promise (smiles)... When they have both matured a bit, he will probably sleep with your cat as they generate a lot of heat.

In closing... use your best judgement... if you really think your cat is trying to kill the Chihuahua, Please do seperate them. You may not need to find a permenant home for your cat. Your cat will settle as it gets a little older. Spaying or Nuetering you cat will help the calming a little faster.

Good Luck...

Here is another thought...

You said your cat Sammy was only 10 months old... So befor Milo came... Sammy was your "baby"??? Right?

So what are the chances that Sammy is not just coming to a rowdy point in his development but, also he sees you loving the new baby more than him now? Maybe have Sammy lay in your lap and have Milo near by but make sure Sammy is your "Number 1" and praise Sammy every time he allows Milo to sniff him. Hold his paws gently if you have to... give him a treat, whatever it takes for him to make the association that you like the two of them together. If he is mean... put him down or put him in a short time out away from you... DO NOT pet the puppy in front of Sammy when he is in Trouble for being mean to Milo.... this will only make him have more animosity toward Milo.
