Oh No Kaylee! That is a bad dog... how old is he? Does he have plenty of toys to tear up and some good chewies that take a long time to chew? He sounds like a young dog and the best way to look at it is: He has puppy needs. Yes, you need to let him know those things are bad but, you also have to fullfill his needs of Chewing and Playing. These behaviors are instinct and it is better to "redirect" the behavior rather than trying to harshly punish him for being bad. So go to a yard sale and buy him some stuffed animals that are his to do with as he pleases and talk to your vet about what type of chewing items are appropriate for your breed. I have mostly Chihuahuas and my Golden will only chew sticks (which is not good) no matter what I buy for her so, I really don't know what will work best for your boy.

Also, I just cannot imagine him doing all of these things while you are sitting there watching him... So I am assuming he is doing this when you are not home or when you are too busy to keep an eye on him... I would suggest an exercise pen to keep him and his stuff in while you are away. I would suggest a baby-gate to keep him in a room but, it sounds like he considers the whole room his personal play-ground. Never put you dog in the pen as a discipline... try to make it a safe place where he has the very best of his toys to lounge in luxury. Also if you take him for a walk and play with him (so he is tired) and of course make sure he has a chance to go potty... before you put him in his new puppy safe environment... he will learn to accept this new routine much more easily.

When you catch your dog chewing on something bad, tell him no in a low firm voice (sort of like a momma dog growl or grumble) and then go and find his favorite toy that he can chew on. Offer him this toy with a higher pitched voice (means excitement to dogs) and praise him for playing with it. Later when you see him chose to play with it all on his own, make sure you reward him by telling him what a good boy he is. He will soon learn what makes you happy and what makes you mad and if I know dogs (and I do) he will chose to make you happy as often as possible. After all this is the most predictable trait of a dog... they are loyal and want to please you if they know how.

Good Luck Kaylee. Give your "bad" little boy some good belly scratches for me... Hope this helps!

Hey Kaylee... I couldn't see your post when I was replying to you... so, I forgot that you said your dog's name was "Holly" and that she is a girl so... please, when you read "boy" think "girl" and please accept my appologies for the mix up *smiles*

what breed is it cause my dog did do that a long time ago but then i spent hours scolding and saying no and now he is a great dog and he is learning to lay down and catch food when you drop it butany im just saying that it takes lots of hard work to turn a bad dog to a good dog
