Have you seen the advertisements of the movie BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUAS? It is due to come out on Sept. 26th. I wonder if it will make chihuahuas become real popular like when 101 dalmations came out on Disney? What are your thoughts?

It seems anytime an animal is featured in a movie it gains tremendous popularity. I'm sure that Chihuahuas will be a hot ticket item in the months to come. I am hoping- as are humane societies across the United States- that parents will give it a lot of consideration before giving their little one a chihuahua.

I like:

March of the Penquins, Turner and Hooch, The Bear, Babe, Lady and the Tramp, The Fox and the Hound, Jungle Book (original cartoon), any of the All Creatures Great and Small series on PBS.

Those are some good choices. I guess my favorite animal-oriented movies would include, in no particular order:

Best in Show
March of the Penguins
Babe
Seabiscuit
Dr. Doolittle (with Rex Harrison not Eddie Murphy)
Chicken Run
Bringing Up Baby

A movie I watched recently was Year of the Dog, starring Molly Shannon. I don't think it was the comedy it was marketed to be, but it was an interesting movie that made me think. It dealt with some pretty interesting (and heavy) topics including how one grieves over the loss of an animal companion and how the outside world does (or does not) acknowledge that grief. The movie also dealt with animal rights, veganism, animal hoarding, and more. Immediately after I watched it, I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. As time has progressed, I find myself thinking about those issues more and have come to understand the characters a bit more. I don't know if it's my favorite animal-related movie, but I am glad I saw it.

I have to say that our favorite movie is Dr. DooLittle. I love how they finally made a movie where someone understands animal talk. But my all time fave thing too watch is the "Puppy Bowl". It comes on the Animal Planet during the Super Bowl (sorry guys). Has anyone else seen it?? ADORABLE. Oh yeah, we also love to watch "The Dog Whisperer". We've learned quite a bit from him.

Not getting to see Animal Planet programs is one of the downsides of not having cable television. I think we've seen an excerpt of The Dog Whisperer before, but I can't recall. I have seen a few episodes of the great show about Meerkats and enjoyed those.
