Some good news for people and pets may be on the horizon. According to this story online (http://www.news4jax.com/health/17760653/detail.html), a bird flu vaccine effective in protecting people, pets, and farm animals could be getting much closer to reality. The November issue of the Journal of General Virology says that researchers have found a vaccine that works on mammals and birds and can even be given to birds while still in the egg.

Pretty interesting stuff.

Take care,

Yeah, this is big news. I did a brief on pandemic influenza quoting the CDC in the spring/summer of 2007 and at that time there was nothing that was going to work on the avian influenza A (H5N1) virus. It was evolving too quickly. We had some outbreaks in the US at that time where the whole flocks had to be distroyed. I beleive the America public has really no idea just how lethal this virus is. When infected with H5N1, humans have a 75% mortality rate. So any inprovement would be great news!
