My dominate female went berserk on the younger male who has no desire to be dominate. She tried to kill him. Now his spirit is broken and she is still at the vets. He is terrified of her now and I don't trust her. Any suggestions on how to remedy? Keeping them apart 24/7 is not an option unless one goes back up for adoption. She is a Australian Shepherd mixed and he is a cocker/golden mixed. Thanks! jrp

There will always be a problem with dominance issues with any dogs. Is the male neutered? Female Spayed? If the female is not spayed, it might be time to think about that. A lot of aggression will leave. For the time being, they can be around each other when you are there, but when you leave, they need to be separated. I have a Pit Bull, a very dominant dog, but if I yell, he cowers. Try playing dominance games with the female, let her know you are in charge. Lay on her, completely covering her. Do this 30 sec. at a time and slowly increase until she has no problem no matter how long. After this, she will do whatever you want and back off no matter what.

Hi there,

I agree for the most part, with what the previous post. However, some of the techniques mentioned are antiquated and current research shows some of these techniques to be ineffective and even detrimental in the long run. I recommend you speak with a certified animal behaviorist. I offer a complimentary consult to all WNB members, and I would be happy to help.
Thanks everyone but after another brutal attack I had to save my male. He is extremely sore and back is swollen some from her last attack. I knew I could no longer trust her and relinguished her back to the shelter. Trust me this was a very tough decision to make. j
