Hello all, My 4 month old brendle (Titan) is in my opinion out of control. He's still teething and he's extremely hyper. What can i do to get him under control and to get him to listen to me?

This behavior is pretty common with a baby. He is chewing to make his mouth feel better. If I were you I would get him raw hide chips or soothies for him to chew on and I would buy bitter apple spay and spay that on the things he is not to chew on. If you catch him chewing on something he is not to be chewing on distract him and give something he can chew on.

Hi there,

just a little info about Pits (assume you have a brindle colored pit?):

For the most part they are very friendly, but not recommended for most people. Most people do not understand how to properly raise and treat dogs. Problems arise when one does not understand dog psychology, seeing the dog as having human emotions, and then end up with a dog who thinks he is the boss of the house. For a smaller, not as powerful dog, people can get away with this, however, for a powerful breed, such as Pit, one really needs to understand and follow this concept of keeping a dog.

First lets address his physcial needs: At 4 months he's still teething. I recommend the following techniques: feeding him ice cubes, freezing toys, tying ice in rags for them to chew on, and buying teething toys. This breed is extremely strong, agile, and fit. They require huge amounts of dedicated exercise (not just running around the yard!).. Hopefully you already knew this and just need to increase the frequency and duration of his current exercise regiment.

Behavioral: at 16 weeks, they are entering the troublesome age - they suddenly have lots of confidence and a strong sense of independece, why bother listening to you when they have figured out by now that they CAN ignore you and don't need to follow you around like some "love-sick puppy?" This is the time to go back to basics, reinforce your leadership, and DO NOT under ANY circumstances provide negative feedback, i.e. punishment. At this age, they are also quite fearful. A new unpleasant experience will stick with them, and you'll need a behaviorist to help rehabilitate him later on.

Hope this helped! Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

i have 4 brindel pitbulls and they are varry hyper and i just found out what they like and i just let them chew on it.pitbulls are life time chewers. so i would recamand a tug rope , a empty pop bottle, a tennise ball, and cow hoofs. cow hoofs will keep there jaws strong. how old is your pit????

Thank you all for that wonderful advice. Since my post we have bought him several chew toys to include both a tug rope and tennis balls. He and I are soooo much better. We have a morning ritual where he follows me and lays on the rug first thing in the morning. He is a great dog and I love him alot. Thank you again. I'll include some update pics of how nicely he's grown soon.
