We want to know what your horses favorite thing's are! Forexample, growing up I had for quarter horses and they all loved different treats: Laddie loved cotton candy, Baby loved apples and honey, Lil' Girl loved cherry cheesecake blizzards, and KC loved sugar cubes. Mind you, this was a once in awhile treat and we kept our horses on a strict diet...but every now and then is okay!!!!

I just have to ask, how do you get to where you know your horse loves those things? They don't seem like things you would walk down to a field munching on..

My sister's and I all participated in our local 4-H Fair and showed our horses competiitvely. One day at the fair, by chance I happened to be eating cotton candy, turned my head and turned back to see my horse Laddie helping himself to it. So every year at the fair we would give him a handful as a treat. As for the honey and apples, we raised honeybees on our farm and always had an ample supply of honey around. In fact all of our horses loved to get some honey poured on top of their feedgrain in the winter months. The cherry cheescake blizzard was something I had gotten to eat, come home and did, in fact, walk down to where our horses were. They always ran up to the fencing by our house when they saw us pull in. Little girl kept trying to stick her nose in it, so when I didn't want anymore I put it on the spoon, and fed it to her. She loved it!

I worked for a lady who owned 11 painted walkers. At first I was extremely nervous around them; when I entered the field they would crowd around me. Since I was a "city slicker" I had no idea what they were up to. I soon discovered that they just wanted a nose or chin scratch; and by the way, was it possible I had some sugar cubes or apples in my pocket? Every time I visited them they would all try to dig in my pockets for a treat. I began to buy deer feed -- large bags of apples and carrots -- and throw them into their field, where they would have to graze to find them. But by far, their favorite treat seemed to be my stocking cap. It became a game to snatchit off of my head and run likle the wind with it. If I wasn't wearing one they would pull my hair and nuzzle me.
I love dogs and cats -- even birds -- but the sweetest kisses in the world come from a horse. I miss them and their silly sense of humor.

Horses are very sweet and loving animals. My horses always loved to give me "hugs" and nuzzle on my neck and in my hair.I don't know why they had a thing for hair- one of my horses would chew on it if you weren't careful.

I just learned last night that the stupid woman who owned the horses I mentioned in the above post was fined and jailed for animal abuse and neglect. Her horses were starving, and two of them had to be put down. I'm glad I'm far away from her right now, and she's in jail. If I could get my hands on her....

Every time I see a story on the news about people abusing or neglecting their horses, I see red. I was always taught that you take care of the animals before you do anything for yourself. They can't get the grain or hay out for themselves, and they are such loving animals. I'm sorry that happened to some of the horses you dealt with. I just think that someday, either in this life or the next, people like that will pay for what they have done.
