I just finished posting a WagNBrag story about a dog in my region who is quite the hero. Scout is a Labrador retriever who recently saved his family when he smelled smoke and alerted everyone in the middle of the night.

Scout's quick nose detected smoke before even the family's smoke detectors did. Scout's people include a disabled veteran just returned from Afghanistan, the veteran's wife, and two teenage boys. Scout's quick actions enabled everyone, including a friend of the boys who was sleeping over, to leave the house quickly before the unseen fire spread. His actions also allowed the fire department to arrive quickly enough to save the house from being totally destroyed by the fire that was spreading through the walls of the house.

Scout's tale of heroism doesn't end there. He also ran back into the burning house to save his other friend, the family's Pomeranian named Todd.

These sorts of tales of doggy heroism are wonderful to discover and it made me wonder, "Is your pet a hero, too?" How many of you have witnessed your pet doing something heroic? Feel free to share your experiences in the replies to this thread.

This may make alot of you think that this dose not make my Saje a hero, but he is a hero to me,and i feel very fortunate to have him.One day last summer,Saje and i were outside,it was a pretty hot day.Now mind you we live on a farm,a great place to raise a dog like Saje, anyway every 2-3 days we have Fox hunters that come out hunting, which i am totaly aginst.Well they had been around the day before.Well i was out picking tomatoes, all the sudden out from our barn,no more than 10 feet away from where i was,out came a Fox,straight for me,well i didn;t see it,but Saje did,and after it he went, about the time i figured what all the noise was,i started freaking out,Saje was stopping the fox from attacking me,and sorry to say and it broke my heart,The fox lost,Saje had a few bites on him but he was ok,fortunatly the fox was not a sick one.And from that day on Saje has been my hero,he alway protects me where ever we go and i will love him forever and ever.Moral to this story always keep your eyes open you never know what is out there, and sometimes it is human error that makes things like this happen.

Well this isn't about my dog Lexis saving anyone but she did have the courage to survive chewing an electric cord. Our Vet calls her a miracle because she should have died that night but she is still with us and you would never know what happened if you weren't told about it, you can read her story if you check it out in the stories section.

I really feel she is my hero because she has taught me that determination is one of the keys to happiness no matter what life deals you.

Happy New Year!

Mnay years ago we took in a stray cat. His name was Larry. For some reason he didn't like my oldest daughter Heather, even though Heather was always nice to him.
When Heather was 17 she had to undergo oral surgery to remove all 4 wisdom teeth. The oral surgeon told me not to let Heather lie down for at least an hour after the surgery in case she vomited. Of course, all Heather wanted to do was sleep, I suggested she just sit back in the recliner for awhile, until the anesthesia wore off. But it wasn't good enough. She fought with me, until Larry jumped up in her lap. She was so shocked and pleased that she began stoking him. It was obvious to me that poor Larry was not happy at all, but he didn't move. It took no time at all for Heather to doze off in the recliner. As soon as she was sound asleep, Larry jumped down.
It's not much, but for a semi wild, timid cat, Larry was a hero that doy.

lol, that is why I love cats! They have a hard shell and think if they let people know that deep down they care about them it will ruin their reputation or something.
When you win the heart of a cat it is so much more rewarding than winning the heart of a dog :)
