Hello everyone , I need alittle advice .. I have a 12 week old pitbull puppy and she is great but shes a little slow getting the potty training thing down pact .. If Im not constantly on her she will still go in the house , IDK is that normal ? When we will get to the point when she will go to the door and let me know she has to go ? Im looking forward to your feed back and thanks sooo much ...

Please keep in mind that a 12 wk old pup is just that - a puppy! Most breeds are puppies till around 12 months of age, and therefore SHOULD be constantly monitored. Welcome to the joys of puppyhood. As a comparison, human children have been known to take anywhere from a year to 6 years for proper potty training to take effect. If it takes humans this long, then you should expect no better from a canine.
Sorry, had a "soapbox" moment. Anyway.... be consistent in your approach, stick to a routine, monitor food and water intake, taker her out after each, and every activity. Taker her out every few hours, always "go" to the same spot, don't distract her with vocals or motion, stand still, and let her walk around till she squats. immediately praise (quarter second rule!) and reward her with a romp in the yard. It's your commitment and consistency to the process that will provide the results you want. Hence, you get out what you put in.

Hello! My pit puppy is almost 5 months old. Potty training went pretty well for us, just remember to give lots of praise and treats don't hurt either :) Also, she is just a puppy--think of it like a kid--it's different for everyone. Don't give up -- it WILL get better!!!

It will get easier on ya! It took my pit 5 months to get the potty trainin down. And my put is 8 months old now. We went and bought a kennel b/c every one in my family works and she stays in it while we are there and then we let her out when we get home. It got to be a retune so she finanlly started going to the bathroom outside..

Hi,
I thought I might try and give you a suggestion that worked for us. I have a toy poodle who we were having some what of a hard time training when she was about that age. Someone suggested to me that we try hanging bells on the door that we take her out through, and ring them every time we go. Sure enough within about a week she was ringing the bells to tell us when she needs to potty. If you decide to do this let me give you some tips that I had to learn:
-always use the same door to take her potty.
-take her nose and ring the bells for her as you are on your way out.
-make a brief command like "ring your bells" when you ring them with her nose.
-don't be discouraged.
- make sure everyone in the family is on board and uses the same command and bells.
- be patient.
Let me know if you need any more help. I promise this worked for us. You will be the envy of all your friends.
Good luck!!!
