And I might also suggest a very simple step to take. Although I keep my cats indoors all the time now, there was a time when 2 of them used to go outdoors. I ALWAYS made certain that they were safely indoors with us, in their room where they wouldn't be stressed by all the doorbell rings and opportunity to freak out and run out the door while handing out candy. With so much meaness in the world its just better to be safe than sorry. Keep those pets indoors friends.

Hello WagNBraggers,

Let's help make sure the treats outnumber the scary tricks this Halloween season. Here are some Halloween safety-tips I found from the Humane Society of the United States (http://www.hsus.org/press_and_publications/press_releases/halloween_pet_tips_100307.html)

--Make sure the animals can't get into the candy. Remember, chocolate can be toxic to many of our pet friends.

--Keep your animals away from the door where trick-or-treaters are coming to beg for candy. Remember, the constant stream of activity at the door from lots of strangers and "creatures" can be quite stressful to our pets.

--Make sure your animals are wearing reflective collars and ID tags. This is especially helpful if they run out the door during a trick-or-treater visit

--Avoid costumes if possible. If your dog or cat doesn't like costumes, it's probably because the costumes restrict the animals vision and mobility. Maybe consider a Halloween-themed bandana instead.

--Keep animals away from lit candles, jack-o-lanterns, and other decorations and try to keep as many of those decorations (including the fake cobwebs) out of reach of curious mouths and paws.

There are just some suggestions. Common sense is always a good guide. What steps are you taking this year to keep your pets happy and safe during Halloween? Any ideas you'd like to share?

Thanks,
