Hello WagNBrag-ers,

I just posted over in the Health section information about a new statewide service in Michigan for finding affordable spay and neuter services in that state. By calling a toll-free number, Michigan residents can locate nearby agencies providing low-cost spay and neuter services.

I learned that Michigan is 1 of 13 states providing this type of hotline service. Does your home state offer this type of hotline? If so, have you used it to find affordable spay and neuter services?

There is a hotline locally run by the Companion Animal Initiative of Tennessee or CAIT, a program of the Comparative Medicine Department of the UT Vet School. The CAIT hotline will provide information about low cost spay and neutering in the East Tennssee area. That number is (865)755-2276.

CAIT does other things, like partner with local organizations that work to reduce the feral cat population. This weekend, they're having a "Feral Fixin'" where folks who capture feral cats can get them neutered or spayed at no cost, preventing feral cat colonies from getting larger. Vet students provide the surgical services; so it benefits the cats and the students.
