I learned to be a dentist with our chiwawa dog.. I thought her teeeth were bad and cracked,
they only had built up plaque on them, so I used dental scraper to scrape them--it took 5
minutes to do all 4 teeth--, her breath is better and now we give her a bath..

OH NO!!!!! That may fix your problem temporarily, but you may have caused more bad than good, here is why.

When you scrape off the calculus (tartar) you are also making scratches in the tooth . These pits and grooves only attract more plaque and build-up. One of the most important steps when your pet goes to a real doggy "dentist" is the polishing. This makes the tooth surface slick and harder for the plaque which turns into the calculus harder to stick.

Also, to properly clean a pets mouth the professional will clean under the gum line with a scaler and/or using hand tools. This needs to be done while the pet is under because it can be a little painful.

Brushing your dogs teeth daily or at least five days a week is best. There are lots of special dental treats, rinses, and water additives that can also be used to help maintain your pets clean mouth.

I'm glad you know the importance of a clean, healthy mouth, but leave the veterinarian care to vets who have the training and knowledge. I know you only want what is best for your pet!!!!
