Foods Potentially Poisonous to Pets


For more information on foods that could be dangerous to pets, visit the American Animal Hospital Association website.

The following foods may be dangerous to your pet:

Alcoholic beverages
Apple seeds
Apricot pits
Avocados—toxic to birds, mice, rabbits, horses, cattle and dairy goats
Cherry pits
Candy (particularly chocolate, which is toxic to dogs, cats and ferrets, and any candy containing the sweetener Xylitol)
Coffee (grounds, beans, chocolate covered espresso beans)
Grapes
Hops (used in home beer brewing)
Macadamia nuts
Moldy foods
Mushroom plants
Mustard seeds
Onions and onion powder
Peach pits
Potato leaves and stems (green parts)
Raisins
Rhubarb leaves
Salt
Tea (caffeine)
Tomato leaves and stems (green parts)
Walnuts
Yeast dough

<p>thanks for posting this because most people feed there dogs some of this stuff. it's important to make these notisable to people just in case your dog gets into the garbidge and you through out something stosic to your dog and you wake up the next day and your dog is realy sick.</p>

<p>It's usually a good idea to consider all nuts as bad for dogs. Depending upon the size and age of the dog, as few as 6 macadamia nuts may be fatal.</p>
<p>Walnuts (especially those found on the ground) can be toxic (thanks to a mold that grows on their shells).</p>
<p>Peanuts are not really nuts and thus are generally considered safe, though it's probably best to use them in moderation. Because of chemicals used in growing the peanuts, it's probably also best to avoid feeding your dog raw peanuts in the shell. Stick to peanut butter.</p>
<p>While lists such as the ones in this thread are a good starting point, it's best to consult with your vet before giving any food from the human menu to your animal friends</p>
