How Long Should it Take Help to Arrive?
Years ago I was watching a show about a cat getting rescued out of a tree. It ended well, the cat was returned to a grateful owner and the firefighter was a hero. Then he said that usually cats will eventually come down on their own and asked if anyone had ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree? Interesting.

Scribbles, however was not stuck in a tree. Scribbles managed to climb up a 20 foot hydro pole, thus beginning his 20 hour ordeal. His owner Mike Shin noticed him up there and called the Toronto Hydro company to ask them to help get his cat down. They informed him this was not a priority.  I can understand that from their point of view, it wouldn't be a PRIORITY, but it should be added to someones to do list.

The company did not come that day. Mr. Shin and his brother stayed out at the poll all night to keep his terrified cat company. Shin said that seagulls were harrassing the cat and he was terrified. Not knowing what else to do they put pillows out around the tree in case he fell and hoped help would hurry.

The next day when Toronto Hydro still did not show Mr. Shin called the SUN. It was then they found time to rescue the cat. Apparently there is not a policy showing where a stranded cat would be on a priority list.

"We help where we can. We have rescued raccoons, so why not cats," said Hydro spokesman Tanya Bruckmueller, who got dispatch to send a crew out to Scribbles. "I hope he can hang on a little longer."

After 20 hours up a poll Scribbles was rescued. His feet hit the pavement and he darted for home, they let him in and he went to hide in the basement. I have to say, after an ordeal like that that is exactly where I would be, curled up in a corner enjoying the feeling of walls.
